Brief Job Summary

The Asia Product and Operations Manager – SE Asia role will report to the Head of Product who is based in London and will have the support of the product and operation teams throughout the company based in London, Brisbane and Bangkok. It is a varied and challenging role which is instrumental to the success and future growth of the business. We are looking for a passionate and proactive individual who is self-motivated and able to work to tight deadlines. A  detailed knowledge of South East Asia is beneficial as well as the willingness to travel often to recce the initial planned countries and future destinations. The position will also be involved in the operational elements of the programme including assisting with the scheduling, supervision, training and recruitment of our Tour Leaders and drivers. The successful applicant will be a creative thinker with excellent attention to detail and effective time management skills. They will have the ability to research new trips and destinations and also have an understanding of our target market and an awareness of competitor activity. This will be a semi-autonomous role which favours a personality that can drive the project forward with input from the HOP although the role will work closely with Back-Roads Operations, Sales and Marketing functions. A close relationship with our external suppliers and on the ground team is essential to ensure new and existing tours are developed, priced and delivered profitably.

 Key Responsibilities:

  • Liaising with our local operators, researching and developing Asia itineraries that will appeal to our clientele.
  • Identify new and interesting products which may be suitable destinations or activities for our itineraries.
  • Manage the product lifecycle from strategic planning and concept to delivery.
  • Contract all relevant services with our ground suppliers and develop long-term strategic relationships with the suppliers to secure the best possible commercial agreements for the company and maintain the DNA of the Back-Roads brand.
  • Ensure the best quality is available through the inspection of accommodation, activities, restaurants and ensure all standards are met in line with our guidelines.
  • Collaborate with local operators to schedule Trip Leaders and assist with training of Trip Leaders. Conduct performance reviews for Trip Leaders.
  • Pricing of the tours which includes analysing competitors previous and current pricing approach and proposing pricing strategies to maximise margins
  • Produce competitor analysis reports a number of times per year.
  • Manage the information required in order to load all products into our reservations system Travel Studio.
  • Liaise with the marketing team to ensure that our trips are effectively and accurately communicated to our customers by means of brochures and the website.
  • Provide information to assist handling customer complaints to their conclusion.
  • Attend trade shows, supplier events and familiarisation trips as necessary.

Experience, Requirements and Key Behaviours

  • Relevant travel industry experience in a Product and/or operational role.
  • Regional experience in SE Asia and preferably in the travel industry is preferred.
  • An in-depth knowledge of destinations within South East Asia.
  • Degree educated (or equivalent) preferred
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to multi-task and work to tight deadlines.
  • Strategic thinker in a fast-paced environment.
  • Advanced communication and presentation skills.
  • Excellent internal and external relationship management skills across all levels.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Numeracy and analytical skills.
  • Be a pro-active and self-motivated team player.
  • A genuine passion for travel.
  • Knowledge of MS Excel and Word to an intermediate level.
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills.
  • A second language would be helpful but not essential.
